AS PART OF THE EU’S SUPPORT TO THE EDUCATION SECTOR IN SIERRA LEONE, 422 SCHOOLS ARE ON TRACK TO RECEIVE NEW FURNITURE

Thousands of pupils can look forward to a more comfortable and conducive learning environment when school reopens, with the distribution of 38,000 EU funded single seater desk and chair sets, to 422 schools in Bo, Kenema, Bombali and Port Loko districts.

The new furniture, which is provided under the EU’s Support to Education in Sierra Leone programme, will create more seating in classrooms and replace broken classroom furniture. Distribution is being carried out now by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBBSE) in preparation for reopening of schools in the coming months.

The contract for the furniture was awarded by the National Authorising Office (NAO) in August 2019. Regular verification checks and routine monitoring carried out by the NAO, MBSSE and the Ministry of Works have ensured it meets contractual specifications.
