EU AND MOPED DISCUSSES SUPPORT AREAS IN THE MULTI-ANNUAL INDICATIVE PROGRAME (2021-2027)

National Authorising Office Director, Ambrose James joined the Minister and Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) and other senior colleagues in a meeting with representatives from the European Union Delegation in Sierra Leone, and from European Union Headquarters. The meeting was aimed at exploring the possibility of a potential budget support package linked to implementation of programmes in the new Multi Indicative Programme (MIP) 2021-2027.

Central to this programme is managing the Sierra Leone environment, biodiversity and forests. During this discussions, MoPED and NAO are looking to engage further in the new financing modality that will assess policy implementation and performance at both macro and micro/community level interventions.

The EU budget support package will be a major contribution in supporting Sierra Leone’s development aspirations.

In his presentation, the Director of Planning, Policy and Research Dr. Sheka Bangura talked about among other things the specific role of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in the implementation of the Medium Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) which are the national level coordination, local level coordination that includes reporting on the MTNDP implementation 2019-2021, reporting on the SDGs and AU Agenda 2063, rolling out of Voluntary Local Reviews, establishment of an integrated SDGs monitoring platform and drafting of National Monitory and Evaluation policy working with NaMED

Moving forward with the implementation towards the successor to the MTNDP (2019-2023), Dr. Sheka Bangura said it will focus on advancing Human Capital Development Programme, facilitating resource, mobilisation through Integrated National Financing Framework, agriFood System, Private Sector Development, Economic Diversification and AfCFTA, Gender and Climate Change, mbedding Science, Technology and Innovation, pursuing Blue Economy Potential, enhancing  Demographic Dividend, paying special attention to the Presidential Infrastructure Initiatives, Western Area Peninsula Local Economic Development Initiative and strengthening monitoring of implementation and reporting

Present at the meeting are the Head of EU Delegation to Sierra Leone Ambassador Manuel Muller, Head of EU Cooperation, Gerald Hertler and EU delegation from Brussels, Minister MoPED, Dr. Francis Kai-Kai and his deputy, NAO Director Ambrose James, Development Secretary Peter Sam-Kpakra and other senior officials in the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
