EU AND NAO INSPECTS REHABILITATION WORKS ON NCRA HEADQUARTERS AT BROOKFIELDS

Friday, 25th June, 2021 a team from the European Union Delegation in Sierra Leone headed by the Head of Cooperation Gerald Hetler and the National Authorising Office (NAO) together with the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) conducted a site visit to the proposed NCRA Headquarters that is currently under rehabilitation to assess progress of work.

The construction works include the rehabilitation of the ground, first, second and third floors of the main building and rehabilitation of the canteen building.

In a briefing meeting chaired by the NAO Director Ambrose before inspecting the entire works, the different contractors gave brief reports on progress of works in their respective areas of responsibilities.

EU Head of Cooperation, Gerald Hetler had wide range of discussions with the different contractors on the diferent components of the entire rehabilitation works where new timelines for completion of works were set out and coordination meetings for contractors were agreed on for works to be properly coordinated on site and to meet with the completion deadlines.

A representative from the National Monitoring and Evaluation Department (NaMED), Engineer Max Gorvie advised that the respective contractors should prepare and presented a list of their outstanding works for EU, NAO and NCRA to be able to tract progress of works, follow up on timelines of the respective contractors.

The rehabilitation work is being funded jointly by the European Union and the Government of Sierra Leone with the EU contributing Le 2,065,005,000.

The EU is supporting the rehabilitation of the NCRA Headquarters to create an enabling work environment for them to deliver on their mandate.

The NAO Director, Ambrose James said once the facility is completed it will be the hub for digital civil registration and vital statistics for Sierra Leone.

Maasaquoi, Lawrence Gbaya, Quantity Surveyor, Ministry of Works and Public Assets
