NAO AND EU MEET WITH CONTRACTORS FOR THE REHABILITATION/UPGRADING OF SCHOOLS IN FOUR DISTRICTS IN SIERRA LEONE

A week in EU/Government of Sierra Leone development cooperation "On the 27th February, The NAO and the EU met with contractors to discuss the next steps for the rehabilitation and upgrading of targeted schools in rural areas in four districts (Bo, Kenema, Bombali and Port Loko).".

The National Authorising Office (NAO) and the European Union Delegation met with contractors this morning (27th February 2020) at the NAO Office, Tower Hill, State Avenue to discuss the next steps for the rehabilitation and upgrading of targeted schools in rural areas in four districts (Bo, Kenema, Bombali and Port Loko).

The schools works contracts were awarded in December 2019 under the “EU SUPPORT TO THE EDUCATION SECTOR” project. This stage of the process involves both the Director and Deputy Director of the NAO guiding the contractors through the nitty-gritty of EU contract procedures.

The NAO Director – Ambrose James said that the essence of the meeting is to ensure that works continue to be implemented smoothly. He added that the NAO and the Government of Sierra Leone want to see value for money. Monitoring and evaluation is an important component of EU development aid, he emphasised, advising the contractors to familiarize themselves completely with their contract details.

Annah Karamat from the EUD also stressed the importance of understanding the contractual process: “These projects are important to the EU and there are complex rules that must be followed before payments will be made to contractors.”
