Agriculture makes up the largest share of Sierra Leone’s gross domestic product (GDP), estimated at 55.1 percent in 2017. It also comprises more than 60 percent of the country’s labour force.

Improving the productivity and commercialisation of the agricultural sector is a critical component of Sierra Leone’s Medium-Term National Development Plan under Cluster 2: Diversifying the economy and promoting growth.

The European Union and the Government of Sierra Leone are cooperating to develop the agricultural sector in Sierra Leone in line with the Government’s MTNDP.
